Ways in which your child can learn during the holidays
School holidays are always a fun time for children. They get to unwind and relax from all the constant reading and learning and actually have time to enjoy themselves through play and interaction with friends. However, some time should be set aside each day for the purpose of study. This will ensure that a student does not fall behind and is up-to-date with the current curriculum. It is therefore the responsibility of parents or guardians to guide their children in studying during school holidays. Luckily, there are many options for students who want to go that extra mile and participate in educational activities during school holidays.
Visit the library
Nowadays, there are quite a good number of public libraries in cities and towns all over the world. They are normally free of charge and accessible to anyone who wants to do some reading or research. Going to study in the library is especially a good idea when there are a lot of distractions at home such as unavoidable noise. There, you will find a wide range of books and research material that will help in acquiring more knowledge.
Homework and projects
Most schools nowadays give out homework, revision materials and projects to be completed during the holidays. Doing so ensures that all students do some reading and researching as the work given needs to be completed before start of school and may sometimes contribute to the overall grade during the next term.
The use of tutors is another way to go especially if you are looking to expand knowledge in a certain area. Most of the tutors are usually teachers who are on holiday too and would want to stay busy or supplement their income. They are therefore very qualified and utilizing their services is always a good idea especially for those students who require additional assistance in their studies.
Using the internet
With an internet-enabled device and an internet connection, you have all the information you need at the palm of your hands. Why not use this to your advantage? With the internet having information pretty much on everything, you can search on topics that interest you and get to learn more. The best thing about using the internet as a source of information is its portability. As long as you have access to a mobile phone, you can always surf the web for any information anywhere and at any time. Unlike use of books which can be very bulky, internet is very easy to carry around.
Education and leisure
There are other forms of educational activities that can also serve as leisure. This is a classic case of the proverbial “killing two birds with one stone”. A good example is a visit to the art galleries and museums. Here, not only do you get to learn about history, you also get to have fun doing it. You get to see historical artifacts that were used by our ancestors and also view modern and antique paintings from renowned artists such as Davinci. One can also visit the zoo and get to see and learn more about different animal species.
